Employee Spotlight: Calvin Drone – From Refuse Collector to Respected Supervisor | City of Columbia

This month’s City of Columbia Employee Spotlight features Calvin Drone, a dedicated Solid Waste Utility team member who began his journey with the City in 2005 as a temporary refuse collector.

In just a few short months, Calvin transitioned into a full-time role and steadily rose through the ranks. Eventually becoming a Refuse Collector III and later a respected supervisor overseeing a team of 35 employees. From route assignments to safety checks, Calvin plays a key role in keeping Columbia’s solid waste services running smoothly.

Beyond the job, Calvin has worked two jobs for 17 years, nurtures his faith through study and reflection, and remains a loyal Kansas City sports fan with a passion for collecting sports cards.

Watch as we celebrate Calvin’s hard work, leadership, and commitment to both his team and community.
