Exploring New Technology for Columbia Police: ALPR, Body Worn Cameras, and Axon Solutions

The Columbia Police Department is exploring the potential use of cutting-edge technology like Automated License Plate Recognition (ALPR), body-worn cameras, and other Axon solutions to improve public safety and officer accountability. In March, the CPD hosted community meetings to discuss how these technologies could enhance law enforcement efforts while ensuring privacy and transparency. In this video, we break down the key components of Axon's technology, including how ALPR helps identify stolen vehicles and wanted suspects, and how body-worn cameras and in-car cameras automatically activate to improve officer accountability. CPD is committed to maintaining an open dialogue with the community and invites residents to share their thoughts and feedback on this proposal
